Boston Fiction Festival
July 16, 2007
So I'm one of nine writers picked to read at the Boston Fiction Festival this year. The selected piece is "Showing at Makonikey," an excerpt from The Mud of the Place, which is very fun to read. The festival runs over three Saturdays, the first of which was this past Saturday. I'll be reading on August 11. Details are on the card. I'm told the venue is small (I'm predisposed to like any place with "Dessert" in its name), and no, I don't expect you to show up. Do check out the festival's website, though -- especially the Authors page!
The festival is new (last year was, I think, the first) and grass-rootsy, but the works chosen for last year's were impressive and I can't tell you what a boost it's been to know that the organizers picked my story out of the slush pile even though they'd never heard of me. If you want to support real-life arts and artists with your time or your money, here's a way to do it. Or find something similar closer to where you live. Or, what the hell, start something similar closer to where you live. (If you're a writer, musician, painter, or some other kind of artist, you're off the hook. Get back to work!)
